Professional Profile

John Buxton, ISA CAPP, is an expert appraiser of tribal art. Mr. Buxton has over 40 years of experience including lecturing, appraising, appearing as an expert witness, and appearing as a regular appraiser on the nationally recognized PBS television show "Antiques Road Show." Mr. Buxton owns Shango Gallery, specializing in tribal art.

With Mr. Buxton's expertise in appraisal methodology, he is often asked to evaluate the methodology of other appraisal reports outside the Tribal art field. He can also locate appraisal expertise in other fields and form appraisal teams for large projects. Mr. Buxton is a qualified expert witness and has provided expertise in African and Precolumbian cases. Mr. Buxton has appeared on the Antiques Roadshow since its inception in 1996
and is considered the lead appraiser for African, Oceanic, and Pre-columbian art.
