My Word Spring 2021
The country is finally opening up after 15 months of some degree of lockdown. Museums, as we cover in this issue, are still strategically selling objects from their collections to cover costs. At least one major museum actually sold objects to avoid reducing staff. Certainly this would have not been condoned previously by the AAM. Some institutions have not been given a pass and have been reprimanded for this activity. With increased costs with re-imagining social engagement with the public, it will be interesting to see how long term patrons will not only view future gifts but also the sanctity of the last wishes for a permanent home for their art collection. Being the director of a museum was previously very demanding; however, it just became even more difficult.
It has been an extremely busy year for us, but somewhat empty without our interns onsite and making a contribution. We have a number of exhibitions and auctions planned over the next six months in addition to the possibility of an educational opportunity where we might share a bit of what we have learned.
The Roadshow is back on the road starting in August. We will provide more information this summer.. Follow www.pbs.rg/roadshow for the latest info.
