My Word Winter 2022

One of the many questions being asked in the art world in the wake of a receding pandemic is what changes in our personal and business lives would remain and what would go. While this evolution is still in process, there are some clear indications of some things that are here to stay. Sothebys and Christies rebounded in spectacular fashion in 2021 as they adapted to digital marketing and auctions. The investment in this new infrastructure had been made enabling the auction houses to reach many more prospective sellers and buyers. The question of whether a buyer could be comfortable buying online without actually personally inspecting the object has been answered so clearly the online auction presence will only continue. This in my judgment is good news for the art market in general. Many of us actually saw an increase in business during COVID.. which seems counter intuitive. If you want to be an effective buyer and seller, you better stay up to date on technology.

It is my hope that the art world will return to focusing on art and will not get so caught up in current political fashion that we lose focus on what brought us all together.

It has been very busy working on both selling art, appraising, cataloging for auctions. We have added some images in this newsletter. And it now appears that we will collaborate on a book project this Spring. Exciting times, indeed.

Can’t wait to see Spring and Summer and to see life getting back to normal. We are here if you need help with Pre-Columbian, Native American, Oceanic, or African Art.
