Intern: Gabriela Paiva de Toledo

My name is Gabriela Paiva de Toledo, and I was born in Brazil. I have recently moved to Dallas to start my Ph.D. studies in the Art History graduate program at SMU. In Brazil, my first contact with the art world was through sixteenth-century Italian art, which was the subject of my Master’s thesis. I also authored a translation from Italian into Portuguese of a Renaissance book on painting. Later, fascinated by the traditional arts of Africa and the Afro-Brazilian arts, I set out a project on the African art collection donated to the University of Campinas with the aim of helping to build a comprehensive critical catalog of the collection. In Dallas since fall 2019, I am now studying Modern and Contemporary photography of South America. My passion for the art world is multifaceted, and I love to be in contact with art objects, what makes this internship an exciting opportunity for me. I also hope to acquire fundamental tools for my future and expand my knowledge of the art market.

Gabriela Paiva de Toledo.
